Hanna was in the first track meet of the season with high school divisionals in Raymond. Track meets are a big deal around here in elementary and junior high. However, by the time high school comes, the kids are involved in so many other sports and the interest in track and field has dwindled to almost nothing. This high school track meet was the lamest track meet I have ever been to. It started an hour late. There was only one lady running the track events. Lots of events didn't even happen because only 2 kids showed up - which is how many get to move on to zones in each event.
Anyway, Hanna qualified in all of her events: 100 meter, 200 meter, and 80 meter hurtles.
Track meet #2 - Lucy competed in her junior high track meet in the 800 meter, 1500 meter, long jump and triple jump. She placed in all of her events. I would say triple jump was the highlight of her day. She is also a good long distance runner, and her face gets so red - just like Hanna. It did rain off and on throughout the day.
Track meet #3 - Carly was next in her elementary track meet. Carly competed in the high jump, long jump, 100 meter and 200 meter. She placed third in high jump and 4th in long jump. Her relay team won first place. Go Carly!
Track meet #4 - High School Zones at the University of Lethbridge. Picture the wind blowing really hard from the north and the temperature was just about 50 degrees. That was Hanna's support team for her zone track meet. The whole family missed school and work to come to cheer on Hanna (and the rest of the Cardston High School team). We just sat all bundled up in our coats and blankets.
Hanna's first event was the 100 meter heats. She qualified for the 100 meter final. Next event was the 80-meter hurtles. She ran the race and came in second. During the race, a girl from Medicine Hat that was in the lane next to her hit a hurtle and fell. A few minutes later, they called all of the girls back from the event back to the start line. The coach of the girl who fell protested and said the hurtles were in the wrong place and they needed to run the event again. So they got out measuring tapes and reset the hurtles. 2nd try at the hurtles. The results were the same except the girl who hit the hurtle was third this time. Guess what - only some of the hurtles were moved to the right place. Once again the hurtles were not in the right place, so they made those girls run the hurtles for a third time. It was so crazy. The results were the same for the third time - Savannah McKee was first, Hanna was second, and the girl from Medicine Hat was third. The girls were tired but had to head right into their next events - some to long jump and some to 200 meters.
I think Hanna was 3rd in the 200 meters. And then she decided not to run the 300-meter hurtles.
We were so happy to get in the car out of the wind by the time Hanna was done. Hanna's love of track is dwindling compared to other years. She said she doesn't want to do to track next year. She qualified for provincials in the hurtles, but it is the same weekend as rodeo provincials so she is not going to track provincials.
Track meet #5 - Lucy and I headed to Raymond for her divisional track meet. Lucy competed in the 1500 meter, long jump and triple jump. She placed sixth in the long jump, fourth in triple jump and second in the 1500 meter. She did good in her race to stay right behind Hallie Litchfield until the last 200 meters.
