First, we were thankful that three out of five weekends had Friday/Saturday rodeos instead of Saturday/Sunday. So she only missed two rodeos. She did have a successful goat tying season. She got points in every rodeo. She started going to a weekly goat tying practice at Hailey Elliott's arena in Nanton with lots of other girls. It was so helpful. Plus Carly got road trip practice as she drove herself most of the time.
Carly did catch in breakaway twice - once she got points and once she was too long. She was so close the other times. Here's to hoping for a better spring!!!
Katie Sommerfeldt was her team roping partner, but she didn't catch any of the times. Carly wouldn't be sure what to do if she had to heel.
Carly asked Traci Aipperspach if she could borrow her horse, Cover Girl, to barrel race on. Carly had some good runs. Then in Fort Macleod as they were coming around third barrel, the horse kind of crossed legs and stepped one leg on the other and then limped out of the arena. We were pretty worried, especially since it isn't our horse, but she was okay. She did end up running her again.
In Nanton, they had a ground goat tying jackpot just for fun as a fundraiser, so we stayed and Austin and Carly entered. On Austin's second run, he took off running and tore the muscle in his right quad and then it also hurt his left ankle and knee as he squatted down. He still finished the rest of his runs, but he was in pain. He said he hates getting old.
The Foremost rodeo is an outdoor rodeo, and it rained for a few hours before the rodeo and during the first couple events. Then it sort of stopped for a couple hours and then rained again. The arena was so muddy. It made for an exciting rodeo and some very muddy kids. The Saturday rodeo was sunny but still muddy. But it was Carly's best rodeo - she got second in goat tying both days.
