Fall High School Rodeo Season
As we finished the last rodeo for the fall season, Carly said, well you could pretty much say the same review for every high school rodeo this fall. I did good in goats, "almost" caught in breakaway, my team roping partner missed, and barrels was just for fun.
First, we were thankful that three out of five weekends had Friday/Saturday rodeos instead of Saturday/Sunday. So she only missed two rodeos. She did have a successful goat tying season. She got points in every rodeo. She started going to a weekly goat tying practice at Hailey Elliott's arena in Nanton with lots of other girls. It was so helpful. Plus Carly got road trip practice as she drove herself most of the time.
Carly did catch in breakaway twice - once she got points and once she was too long. She was so close the other times. Here's to hoping for a better spring!!!
Katie Sommerfeldt was her team roping partner, but she didn't catch any of the times. Carly wouldn't be sure what to do if she had to heel.
Carly asked Traci Aipperspach if she could borrow her horse, Cover Girl, to barrel race on. Carly had some good runs. Then in Fort Macleod as they were coming around third barrel, the horse kind of crossed legs and stepped one leg on the other and then limped out of the arena. We were pretty worried, especially since it isn't our horse, but she was okay. She did end up running her again.
In Nanton, they had a ground goat tying jackpot just for fun as a fundraiser, so we stayed and Austin and Carly entered. On Austin's second run, he took off running and tore the muscle in his right quad and then it also hurt his left ankle and knee as he squatted down. He still finished the rest of his runs, but he was in pain. He said he hates getting old.
The Foremost rodeo is an outdoor rodeo, and it rained for a few hours before the rodeo and during the first couple events. Then it sort of stopped for a couple hours and then rained again. The arena was so muddy. It made for an exciting rodeo and some very muddy kids. The Saturday rodeo was sunny but still muddy. But it was Carly's best rodeo - she got second in goat tying both days.

September Quote Wall
Austin's morning pep talk to Carly before the Fort Macleod rodeo:
"Tell yourself you're a bad A. That's Spanish for apple."
Katie Nunn's quote of the day: I wish I had some chik-fil-a sauce. I've tried it on everything - even waffles, but that's where I draw the line.
Lucy and Hanna teaching Will some Spanish words during our missionary Monday video call. Then they said, "Will, are you bilingual?" Will said, "No, I am Wilson Perkins." Wilson is what Hanna calls Will so now he thinks that is his name, Wilson Perkins.

Austin and Kaylynn's 28th Wedding Anniversary
September 6, 2024 is our 28th wedding anniversary.
Austin sent flowers to me at work.
He sent this to the family group chat:
Hi family: just wanted to wish your mom happy anniversary. 28 years is a long time. We have been poorer than church mice. She has helped me get two degrees, she has taken care of horses, sick calves, ran ropings, opened chutes, driven truck, hooked up trailers, stayed up late for kids to come home, stay up with sick kids, gave birth to amazing kids. She loves God, loves Jesus, loves her family. Thanks for 28 years Kaylynn.
A classic quote of the day that represents our 28 years of marriage:
Kaylynn “oh, is it jeans Friday?”
Austin “it’s anniversary Friday and my butt looks better in jeans, so it’s all for you."
We went out to dinner at Kilmorey Lodge in Waterton. We got a free dessert since it was our anniversary. Austin would have chosen the chocolate cake, but he unselfishly let us order the apple crisp since that is the only thing I could eat. What a great husband!!!!
