Family Home Evening by Carly

Service
So we "served" a ball into a cup and each cup had a question about service.

Service is nice.
Service is neat.
You feel better when it is complete.

Life

Lucy is running cross country this year. We got to go watch her finish the Bullhorn Run at Kainai High School. It was muddy, but she did so good.

The high school had a fundraiser and invited Chad Lewis to come and speak. Chad played football for BYU and then in the NFL. His wife, Michelle Lewis, has lots of cousins in Cardston. Plus she is one of Jeanette's (my sister) best friend. They served in the stake young women's presidency together for 6 years. Michelle and Chad both spoke. They did such a great job.

When Cardston hosts the high school rodeo, I help as the secretary and Austin sorts the stock for all of the timed events. Hanna is cute. She did good. She won goat tying both days. She placed in breakaway and team roping both days.

There is nothing more peaceful than watching your kids sleep:)

We picked a beautiful day for our Leavitt Ladies horse ride. We went to Wishbone Landing. It was a fun group of ladies. I rode Leo this year. He is my favorite trail riding horse.

Never a Dull Moment

My kids and husband keep life exciting.

Carly's quotes of the week:
"When you are little, your mom has to do a lot of things for you, like pick your clothes and help you get dressed. Then when you get older, you can do more things for yourself. But then when you get even older you have to do harder things, like pay entry fees."

"We lost our game in intramurals today. It was humiliating."

After we dropped Carly off at school on Tuesday, she called and said it was picture day, and we had forgotten. In fact, Carly was super slow getting ready that day and we only had spent 10 seconds on her pony tail that day. Luckily, her teacher said she could get her picture taken the next day. So the next day we remembered and curled her hair. #youngestchildproblems #momfail

Carly left this note on our bed last night. The door handle to the horse trailer came off today.

Hanna also keeps life exciting. This week Hanna's school had a rodeo activity at the Agridome. First, the local rodeo kids demonstrated their events, so Hanna took Lena and did a goat run. Then all of the kids did events like stick horse pole bending. After school, Hanna was telling me all about it and told  me that she had taken a thermostat of hot chocolate.

School & Anniversary

It's the last day of summer break. It's Labor Day. It's a cold day. We went to Waterton to celebrate and try gelato from Beaver Tails. It was tasty. But it was a cold and windy day so this picture was our only outside adventure in Waterton that day.

This is Austin leaving for work on the first day of school, but not to a school this time - to the division office as assistant superintendent. He actually started his new job a month ago, and he likes it and is still trying to figure out what his new job entails. And he misses kids.

These are my seniors ready to start school. Lucy is a senior of the junior high (grade 8). Carly is a senior of the elementary (grade 5). Hanna is a senior of the high school.

This is our 22nd Anniversary dinner celebration. We grilled steaks in our backyard and ate cheesecake that I made.

This was our dinner entertainment. Lucy and Carly had a jumprope routine for us.

Austin and I counted our pre-anniversary celebration when I went with him to a conference at Kananaskis. I really liked hanging out all day while he went to classes and then I went to dinner with them in the evenings. The second day he only had class in the morning, and we went hiking in the afternoon. It was super smokey from the wildfires in British Columbia.

Back to the start of school. Lucy ran for Girls Sports Rep for Student Council. Her and Carly got the posters and her speech ready weeks ago. She passed out water bottles, suckers and rocket candies. She did so good on her speech. When we went to pick her up after school, we could tell their were tears. She didn't get elected. Heartbreak. We wallowed in our sadness by eating ice cream at Dave's. Then we went to get love from Dad. Dad's advice to Lucy: This doesn't define you. You are still the same amazing person. And you don't need a title to serve. You can still support all of the sports in your school.

I got to go with Carly on her field trip to Police Lake. We went to four stations to learn about wetlands and the animals that live in the area. It was a fun day - well for most of us. There were a groups of kids and a mom who were playing camoflauge (hide and seek) in the woods and came across a wasp nest and got lots of stings.

Spirit Week at the high school is always exciting. This was 80s exercise day.

This was this group ofquality kids best look for picture day. They really have graduation pictures in a couple months in a cap and gown, so this picture day is just for their profile picture on power school so they went all out. One of the photographers laughed and the other one did not think they were funny. This is what Hanna and her friends call themselves Work Play Ball Hard Squad.

We had to take a picture of Carly because she actually went to school with her hair down and not in a ponytail, and she was wearing a sweater.

First football game of the season.
