This was Hanna's year. She was going to qualify for nationals in high school rodeo.
High school rodeo provincials were in Ponoka, Alberta where they have a beautiful indoor facility and they run a great rodeo.
Hanna's first event was goat tying. It was her turn and she ran in, tied the goat, and the goat got up. What? How could that be? That was not the way it was supposed to go.
Next event was breakaway roping. She rode in the box, nodded and missed. No time.
That was it. Not going to nationals.
It was heartbreaking (as you can see from this picture of Carly - she cried for a while).
We didn't really say much to each other for the rest of the day.
But true grit came through and Hanna was successful the next two days.
On day 2, Hanna placed third in the goats and tied for first in breakaway roping.
On day 3, Hanna tied for first in goat tying and placed in the breakaway roping.
When the weekend was over, she had won two buckles so she did fight back and do her best.
At least she has one more year.
