2.8 Seconds

Hanna is playing on the grade 9 girls basketball team this year. It has been a great season - the girls have all improved a lot and had a really fun year. Their coaches, Shelly Quinton and Dani Sheen, have been awesome.

This week was divisional play-offs.  First they played against the Raymond team and won.  Next they were in the championship against Magrath.  They had already played against Magrath three times this season with 2 losses and 1 win.  The game started off great, but then all of the starters (including Hanna) had 2 fouls in the first quarter so they sat on the bench most of the second quarter.  The second half of the game, the score was very close and kept going back and forth.

Cardston was up by 2 points with 9 seconds left and Magrath scored.  The game was tied at 55 with 2.8 seconds left.  We called a time out.  Hanna passed the ball in to Madison Leishman. She wasn't open to take the shot so she passed it back to Hanna who shot a three-pointer.  The ball went swish just as the buzzer rang.  They won!!

I had decided to video the first minute and the last minute of the game just on my phone since it was their last home game. So I had on video the last 2.8 seconds with Hanna's winning shot.

I put it on Facebook because it was such an exciting shot.  It has had over 3,000 views. Lots of people have talked to Hanna about it.   There were lots of comments, too, although a few people thought it was Jill:)

Good work Hanna! Now onto the Zone Tournament.

Zone Update:
Hanna's team ended up in 3rd place in the zone tournament. They had to face Magrath again on their second game and lost to them. Austin and I were at a rodeo with Lucy and Carly, but we everyone told us that it was brutal, very rough, and the referees did not do a good job keeping it in control.  So then Hanna's team played against Medicine Hat and won which put them in 3rd place in their zone.
