Jill in High School Rodeo

This is Jill's second year in high school rodeo. She competed in team roping, breakaway roping, and goat tying.

It has always been her goal to make it to provincials and nationals.

She didn't have as many good rodeos as she hoped. Near the end of the season she was in about 13th place in each event.

In the second to last rodeo she won goat tying so that put her in 10th place so she qualified to go to provincials.

At first I thought of course we will go to Grand Prairie with her. Then I thought maybe Austin and Jill would just go. Then we decided to send her with Mike and Vicki Cahoon.

They left on their 10 hour drive to the rodeo. The first round, Jill's goat ran crazy and she was 14.4 seconds and didn't place. In the second round she was 8.7 seconds and placed third. That moved her to 20th out of 30. Then in the third round she was 8.7 again and placed fourth. After three rounds she was third in the average and ended up placing sixth out of 30, so she qualified to compete in the Canadian high school rodeo finals!

The morale of the story is to never give up.

And also that blessings come when you keep the Sabbath day holy.

Cardston's rodeo team: Jill, Taylor Lewis, Kole Neilson, Whitney Weston, Ty Lewis, Bailey Cahoon.

Bailey Cahoon was Jill's sister for the week. These are two funny girls. Bailey is awesome!

Off to Cowboy Prom!

Rodeo Results

Rodeo is what we do through the winter.

We went to Small Spurs Rodeos in Claresholm once a month.
Carly ended up 4th in her age division in barrel racing.

Hanna won 1st place in Goats and earned a buckle.
She also placed 5th in team roping.

Lucy didn't place this year, but she did awesome. Next year she will be older in her age category, and she has a new horse - Happy.

We also finished our Southern Circuit Rodeo season.

Carly and Lucy got Tiny Mite participation prizes.

Jill got second place in senior goats and fourth for heading in team roping.

It was Hanna's year of glory.
She won the junior high-point saddle.

She also got the junior goat 1st place buckle and the junior breakaway 1st place buckle. Hanna was 3rd place in 3D barrel racing, 4th in senior goats, and 4th in team roping heeling.

Austin is the President of Southern Circuit this year, and I am one of the secretaries.
We love it!

Hanna is a Fast Runner!

Hanna somehow got a great mixture of fast running skills and the desire to achieve.  She worked hard at track practice twice a week, and it paid off.

First was the Cardston Junior High School track meet.
She placed first in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, triple jump and relay. She even broke a few school records.

Next was the Westwind Divisionals track meet.
She placed first in the hurdles, 200 meters, 400 meters and relay. She placed second in the 100 meters and triple jump.

The first two places in each event get to go to the zone track meet, and it was in Medicine Hat this year.  Carly and I were brave and rode the bus with the students.  Lucy came with a friend so we could cheer on Hanna.

Zone Champion - Hanna Nunn
Hurdles
200 Meters

She ended up second in the 100 meters to Melissa Carter, her friend from CJHS.  It should have been called a tie. They were so close that it took them almost 15 minutes studying the pictures to decide which girl won.

She also ended up 2nd in the triple jump.  She was in first place until the last jump, and then another girl barely beat her.

She also ran on the 4 x 100 relay team, and her team was first place.

It was such a fun day, and CJHS did so well in all of their events,  Hanna has a really great group of kids in her grade - they are not only athletic but just really good kids.

As we were loading the bus to go home, they announced the aggregate winners.  Hanna was hoping to win, but she ended up with 24 (out of 28 possible) points and was second for girls in her age group,  But then they announced that Cardston Junior High won the aggregate for the schools.  They were zone champions and received the banner.
