Kaylynn - New Calling

 I had the privilege of serving in the Relief Society Presidency in Leavitt Ward with Colynda Duce (President), Connie Quinton (1st Counselor) and Josie Bevans (Secretary) for almost 4 years. Most presidencies are changed about every 3 years, but since it was covid and we really didn't have much church or church activities, the Bishop kept us in longer. All of the presidencies had been in for more than 3 years so I knew a change was coming. 

One day I got a text from the executive secretary that the Bishop would like to meet with me and my husband that night. I said yes, what time. He asked what time worked for me. That meant I was the only interview that day - not a list of counselors or teachers to be called. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I was pretty sure that it was going to be Young Women's president. Especially since I had just found out the day before that they were changing our ward boundaries and the current YW president would no longer be in our ward. The first time I was called into Young Women's, the Holy Ghost had to work on me for weeks preparing me for it. This time I had no idea - so I guess I am growing up.

It was a sad day to get released from Relief Society, but it was time.

My new Young Women's presidency is me, Nicole Wendorff 1st Counselor, Sarra Eaton 2nd Counselor, Michelle Murray Secretary, Eve Verdon is my advisor, Kim Weston (not in the picture) is the 14-15 year old advisor, and Amber Walters is the 12-13 year old adviser. 

They sustained me and my counselors one Sunday, and then it was the next Sunday that they sustained the advisers and secretary and I was actually watching church on zoom while we were at a family reunion in Montana, and after they read all of the names, I thought to myself, that sounds like a really fun team. Oh yeah, I get to be on that team!

Canada Day 2021

July 1, 2021

Not only did we celebrate Canada Day, we also celebrated the end of most covid restrictions - no masks and singing in church and no restrictions in gatherings, etc.

First the Canada Day parade in Raymond (take note of Uncle Rod's view of the parade).

Second floating on tubes on the Milk River near Del Bonita. 

Then a hot dog roast with Grandma and Grandpa (who had toe surgery the day before).

And finished off the day watching fireworks in Cardston.

 

June

Life in June brought beautiful weather. Riding in our arena as much as possible. A new wheelbarrow for Father's Day. Lucy won a breakaway jackpot. Carly was a nominee for the Ron Dittmann award. Carly got to play a handful of softball games. Lucy and her friends at grad. 

 

Friends in Waterton

Birthdays are a good excuse to get together with friends in Waterton. 

The covid restrictions are that only 4 people can be at a table and only on the patio to eat at a restaurant, so we got takeout food from Lakeshore and ate outside. It was a beautiful night in Waterton with lots of laughs.

Junior High Rodeo Provincials

The weather was great for the junior high rodeo provincials in Nanton, Alberta.

Here's the rundown of the weekend:

Day 1

Clean pole run but the ground was deep and slightly muddy.

Slow goat run - didn't flank very well 14.0 seconds

Breakaway - missed

Not our most fine ride home. Carly wasn't happy. Austin gave a pep talk about overthinking things, having fun, not worrying about what other people think, remembering the basics, etc.

Day 2

Hanna's horse Lena got called up from the pasture to be the goat horse. Lena has been sore and spent the winter at Grandpa's house. She hasn't been ridden for a long time. They took her to the Agridome last night to ride her and do a few goat runs. She took it like a champ.

Goat got up but Lena worked great.

Day 3

Clean pole run - only 6 out of 30 girls had 3 clean pole runs. So Carly ended up placing 4th in the average, which is awesome for Carly and Slick, a rope horse that runs poles.

Spring High School Rodeo

 Alberta is still in deep in a pandemic fighting covid-19, but the Alberta High School Rodeo leaders worked and worked to get a plan approved by Alberta Health Services so we could still have rodeos. Everyone has to wear a mask, except right when they make their rodeo run. And no one can sit in the stands. And parents can only walk up to the rodeo fence right when their child is competing and watch or video and then go back to the trailer. It was better than nothing.

We went to Vauxhall, Taber, Foremost, Nanton, High River and Strathmore. Lucy and Carly had some great runs and some not so great runs. Most of the days we went were pretty nice, and we choose not to go to the Sunday rodeos, but I think they had rain or snow most Sundays. There were two weekends where it was snowing in Cardston, but then it was nice by the time we got to the rodeo location.

Lucy missed one of the rodeos because she was in close contact quarantine and couldn't leave our house, plus she only gets to go to one of the rodeos each weekend. And we missed being able to rodeo at Southern Circuit rodeos through the winter, and some weekends didn't go as well as we hoped, so she didn't qualify for provincials. Next year.

Carly did qualify for provincials in her 3 events: pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping.

Our girls are lucky to have a dad who puts so much time and effort into helping and teaching and encouraging them!
