Tithing

The time came to sell Cheno. He is a horse we bought from Randy Pitchford a few  years ago. He is a good horse but he wasn't working for Lucy and Carly for rodeo. As Traci Aipperspach said, "Cheno knows how to get fired from every job."

So we found a buyer - Tyler Bevans. Tyler is so happy with Cheno.

We sold Cheno for the same price we bought him for - $5500.  So we do pay tithing on that money? Is it an increase?

I suggested we did pay tithing and test this principle:

• Malachi 3:10

  10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

The next day Austin decided we should pay tithing and gave me $500 cash to pay tithing.  So we took it to church and paid our tithing.

The next day we had a southern circuit rodeo (Monday was Family Day).  At the end of the rodeo, our family had earned $567 in prize money. That has never happened before.  We are lucky to break even with our entry fees.  The very next rodeo we had earned $165 in prize money.  We were definitely blessed that day for paying our tithing.

On another note, we sold Cheno so we could buy another horse for Lucy.  Austin saw a flyer for one he wanted to try from British Columbia. The  owners brought that horse for us to try that same day.  But during the rodeo, a horse named Happy ran the barrels.  Monica Wilson said to Austin, "You should buy that horse, It is for sale."  A family from Saskatchewan had brought it to the rodeo for another family to look at.  After a day of negotiating, the other family didn't want Happy and Austin bought her.  She is the perfect horse for Lucy!!!

Basketball, uh huh, basketball, oh yeah

Basketball is definitely one of the four seasons at our house.

Hanna was on the grade 8 team this year with Coach Erica Burt.

She rocked this year!

Hanna was the high-point shooter most games. I think her highest game was about 25. Her signature move is to steal the ball and go for a fast-break. The trick is if she can put up a soft lay-up or not.

Her team went had a fun weekend in Strathmore at a tournament. Her team was undefeated and won the tournament. They were the only 8th grade team - the rest were 9th grade.


Her team ended up 2nd place in the division and 2nd place in zones.
We loved watching her this year!

Lucy turned 10!

Lucy had a few quality friends come over for her 10th birthday party.  It is fun to have a second house to have giggly girl parties in. The girls were fun.

October 10 We are so excited for our four day Thanksgiving weekend even though Canadian Thanksgiving isn't quite as exciting as US Thanksgiving. Having Thanksgiving on a Thursday is a much better idea than on a Monday. We are still excited to celebrate with food and family!!

June 9  A glimpse into our family scripture reading each night:
 Kaylynn - "you have 8 more minutes to eat a snack and come to the living room for scriptures and prayer"
Austin - "Carly, stop dancing and jumping off the couch."
Jill - she thinks it is a speed reading contest and tries to read both her verses without taking a breath
Hanna - "Where are we?" "What verse are we on?"
Lucy - "Can I just go get in bed?"
Carly - tries to read the words by herself and gets "And it came to pass" but then she makes up words and we try to correct her and she says "don't tell me" so we just let her make up her own version:)

March 17  Lucy and Carly really wanted to catch a leprechaun with this awesome trap so they could get 3 wishes. But he got away. Carly was going to wish for powers, like that could clean her room for her. Lucy was going to wish for 5 more wishes. Remember to wear green today

Christmas Traditions of Nunn

What are your Christmas traditions? Some of our traditions are from Austin's family, some from mine, and some are our own.

1. We put up our cowboy Christmas tree and decorations as a family after U.S. Thanksgiving. Austin is helpful and fun as we decorate. The kids are always excited.

2.  We go to the church to watch the First Presidency Christmas devotional.

3. We go to concerts and programs.  This year Lucy had an elementary choir concert and her senior choir sang at the Rotary Christmas sing-a-long concert. 

4. We go to ward Christmas parties and work Christmas parties.  This year our ward party was a Christmas program at Grandma's. There were a few songs, poems, stories and the nativity. The Bishopric did a skit to the 12 Days of Christmas and threw eggs into the crowd (luckily the yolks had been blown out). Then Santa came and we had doughnuts and hot chocolate.

 5. We draw names on the Waite side of the family and exchange Christmas gifts (kids to kids; adults to adults). Thank goodness for Amazon wish lists.  On the Nunn side, we take turns making a family calendar.

6. Our four daughters draw names for Christmas gifts, but the last two years they have all given a gift to all of the sisters. Maybe we don't really need to draw names.

7.  We try to do a secret Christmas service each year. We can't tell what we do or it wouldn't be secret.  This year we were getting a box ready to deliver to a family and Carly could not get why it had to be secret. She said she thought it was nice to give gifts but not really nice to keep it a secret. Carly and I were chosen to take the box, knock and run.  As we were driving away, Carly said, "Can we do another secret Santa."

8. We love to give and receive neighbor gifts and treats.  My theory is that you have to take treats early or else people will be sick of treats and may or may not eat your treats you take.  This year we were late taking them, so they may or may not have gotten eaten. We also love Christmas cards and tape them all up on our wall.

Jeff Anderson, who works at Austin's school, brought this to Austin for a Christmas gift.  This is the theme for Cardston Junior High this year - not impossible - but I'm Possible.

9. All of the kids sleep next to the Christmas tree - usually on the eve of Christmas Eve.

10.  On Christmas Eve we eat a fun dinner with Sarah's family and Grandpa & Grandma Nunn. We have cold cuts, cheeses, vegetable trays, crackers and dips, etc.  Then we have a Christmas program.

9.  The girls all get new pajamas on Christmas Eve.

10. On Christmas morning, we open gifts by passing a gift to each person. Then we open the gifts one person at a time starting with the youngest. Carly got a barbie from Santa, and she said that the Santa we talked to in the mall in Logan must be the real Santa because that is who she told she wanted a barbie.

10.  We enjoy a nice Christmas dinner each year. This year we went to Taber to be with Sarah's family. I love Christmas dinner!!

11.  Our third year of a new tradition is Tree Gifts. There is a wrapped gift in the tree for each person. We open it at the end of Christmas Day. This year we each got a book or DVD from the LDS bookstore.
