Lucy at High School Rodeo Provincials

Lucy qualified for high school rodeo provincials in goat tying.

When Austin says we are leaving for Stettler at 4:50 am, we leave the driveway at 4:52 am.

After an early morning drive, finding a parking spot, and going to the mandatory contestant meeting and group picture, Lucy made her first goat run. She was 8.5 seconds which put her in a 3-way tie for 10th place.

The second day Lucy made a 7.8 second run, which was a personal best, and put her in a 3-way tie for 4th/5th/6th place.

Saturday night was the rodeo grad banquet. They introduced the graduates one by one as they walked in under the horseshoe arch. We had a delicious roast beef dinner. Then they had the graduates line up again, and they gave them each a graduation diploma and some received scholarships and they announced what each graduates plans were after graduation.

Lucy received the AHSRA raffle scholarship ($1375 for all the raffle tickets she sold) and the AHSRA merit scholarship for $1,000.

On Sunday morning, we went to the Stettler branch for church but only had time to take the sacrament before we left for the rodeo. Our family has chosen not to compete on Sunday during the regular season, which makes it harder to earn enough points to get to provincials but it still has worked for everyone, and then we have decided if they make it provincials, they will compete on Sunday.

For Lucy's third and final goat run of her competitive rodeo career, she was 8.9 seconds.

We left the rodeo as soon as Lucy was finished her event so she could make it back to take grad pictures in Waterton with her friends.

 

Lucy and Her Graduating Friends in Waterton

Lucy and her friends went to Waterton for a Sunday night photo shoot before grad. It was the weekend of high school rodeo provincials, so we weren't sure she would make it back in time for the photo shoot. Luckily it all worked out and she had about an hour to get ready and get to Waterton. The pictures turned out so good!

Kaela & Joel Tie the Knot

Our cousin, Kaela Lee, has dated a lot of boys and has even been engaged or almost engaged a few times. But then she met Joel Bhaskaran. He is by far our favorite and so happy that Kaela found him. He is from Bahrain, a small island country near Saudi Arabia. He came to Canada to go to school and has been here for a few years. 

Kaela and Joel decided to have a small wedding ceremony this year and then have a big celebration next year, mostly to give Joel's family time to prepare to come.

Joel's parents did come for the wedding, and they had a nice little ceremony and then a potluck dinner at their house.

 

Spring High School Rodeo Season

 

Women's Basketball Spring League Champions

Cardston has a women's spring basketball league that is really fun. They play twice a week for about 6 weeks. Hanna, Lucy & Carly were all on the same team. Hanna missed the first game or two because she wasn't home from school yet. Having all 3 of them here for May probably won't ever happen again, so it was fun to watch them play. Plus they had a really good team - especially with Logan Van Dusen & Sydney Carlson on their team. They won the spring league championship.

 

SARRC 2022-23

Another season of Southern Circuit has come and gone.

Carly won the Junior All-Around saddle.

She also placed in Junior Poles, Junior Barrels 2-d and Junior Goat Tying.

She only won the saddle by a couple of points - especially because the last rodeo she didn't do great in her events and didn't really get any points.

This was Lucy's last official year competing in Southern Circuit. She did win the Open Goats buckle.
