The Big Move

The time finally came for our big move to Canada. With very mixed emotions, we packed up all of our stuff and left Utah on June 21, 2010.

We had many good-bye/last chance get-togethers:
*A trip to the Homestead with my family

*A boating trip with my K-1 roommate friends

A super warm day - can't you tell?

*Going out to breakfast with my aerobics friends

*Jill and Hanna had their school friends over for an evening with lots of laughter and screaming

*A quality dinner with MC basketball friends (Crosbies, Stewarts, and lots of MC basketball girls)

*A hot dog roast with the Summers at the river bottoms in Paradise

We were given many going away gifts (which were totally a surprise) such as an
afghan, cowboy quilt & pillow, tons of treats and coloring books for our trip. THANKS!!

We had lots of help to pack and clean, and by noon our horse trailer and Buck & Martha's horse trailer were loaded with no room to spare and we were ready to roll. My van was also packed to the roof.

We had an exciting trip to Canada.

First, Grandpa Buck got pulled over for speeding in a construction zone because his truck has no speedometer, which was so ironic because his truck doesn't go over 55 mph, so we enjoyed a slow version of our trip north.

We stayed the night in Dillon, Montana and enjoyed swimming and Pizza Hut.

The next day Grandma Nunn was helping Kaden (Sarah's son who came with Grandpa & Grandma) get a blue raspberry slushie when the machine splurted blue sticky all over her and the floor. Later that day she was standing next to the truck when Carly kicked a black cherry shasta can off the truck that exploded right by her.

When we were almost to Cutbank, Montana, we hit a rain and hail storm like I have never seen. It was really coming down. It was scarey to drive in. The poor dog, Roxie, was in the back of the truck and was drenched.

We finally made it to the border.

We had to stop at the U.S. side to export our vehicles (a complete story by itself, since we only realized a few days before we left that we needed to complete the paperwork for this - thanks to a few tender mercies and a day of tracking down paperwork, we got it sent in on time).

I was totally shaking as I handed Officer Bugg ( a stout, African American border patrolman) our paperwork. Luckily, no problems and done in just a few minutes.

Then to the Canadian Border. The two border patrol workers were angels with guns (Austin called them). One lady was from Buck & Martha's old ward and one from their new ward. They were helpful, kind and professional. They said we were well-organized and prepared with all of our paperwork. A little more than an hour later, we were Canadians.

As soon as we got to Grandpa & Grandma's house, Hanna said, "I want to go home."

What's Up?

Jill and Hanna finished their first year of piano lessons from Sierra Summers and happily practiced every single day all year (or not). We had a nice little piano recital at Sierra's house.

We have been going through everything so we can clean and pack to move. This is the day we cleaned out the hat closet.


To celebrate school getting out, we met most of my quality family for a fun weekend at the Homestead (thanks again to the Bennetts!) We played soccer, ate good food and went swimming.
Saturday morning there was a race, so Hanna ran the kid's half mile and got 2nd in her age group. Jill and I ran the 5K in 29 minutes 38 seconds. I trained for about a month and was very happy that I beat the 15-minute mile mark. I was hoping someone took a picture of me running to prove I did it, but I just got in the "before race" picture.

For Memorial Day, we went to visit my Grandma's graves at the cemeteries. They look so pretty with all of the flowers and decorations. We talked to long lost relatives at both cemeteries.

Lucy had a doctor's appointment in Salt Lake, so we decided to be tourists and enjoy Temple Square. We had lunch at City Creek. We went on a tour to the top of the Church Office Building. Then we walked around Temple Square.

Nunn Happenings

*We listed our house with a realtor. http://www.utahrealestate.com//961674

*We really need to find someone who wants to buy our awesome house because we want to move to Canada on June 21 if our house is sold.

*I went 2 weeks without eating any candy, dessert, cookies, ice cream, etc. That is a MAJOR accomplishment for me.

*We have endured every possible weather condition during our 6 soccer games a week.

*Carly turned 2.


*We have had lots of doctor visits again for Lucy's knee (because of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis). We have to start giving her a weekly shot. Austin came to learn how to give the shot since he thought I would pass out. The nurse said farmers/ranchers are always better at giving the shots because they have experience. I am gladly letting him be the shot giver. I will be there for support.

Spring Break

We started our celebration of Easter early by letting the girls wear their new Easter dresses the Sunday before Easter, since Easter was General Conference.

Then that week, we got a huge dump of snow.


For spring break, we went to Wyoming to visit Les & Hollis and family for Easter weekend.
Austin played cops and robbers with the kids all morning while we waited for Les to come back home from work.

For our Easter celebration, we painted Easter eggs, the Easter bunny came, and we went to the Padlock Ranch Easter picnic and Easter egg hunt.




The next day Austin, Jill and Hanna helped Les move cows.

Hollis and I took them lunch. This is a true cowboy picnic.

Then on the way home from our visit, we got stuck in Rawlins, Wyoming, for 24 hours because they closed the roads because of a snow storm. We waited in the car for 4 hours thinking they might reopen. Then we went to get a hotel room. We got one of the last in town and would have slept in the car if we had waited 15 more minutes.

At least we had a place to stay, we kept telling ourselves.

Canada - Hanna's Birthday

In March, we took a last-minute trip to Canada. Austin had job interviews for 2 of 3 open principal positions in Cardston, Alberta. After the first interview, they called him and said they wanted him to also interview for the third open position. So after interviewing 3 times in 24 hours, we felt like they liked him and we would like it there, but that he would more likely get a vice principal position after the shuffle took place. Then to our surprise, we were almost to Helena, Montana, and the superintendent called and offered him the position of Cardston Junior High Principal.

So we are moving to Canada!

The day we were in Cardston staying with Grandpa and Grandma Nunn, we celebrated Hanna's 9th birthday. We went to the Dollar Store, rode horses with Grandpa, and went to see Grandpa & Grandma's new house. Then we ate French Toast and bacon for dinner which is what Hanna requested. Then we enjoyed some delicious, fat-free, low-calorie ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.
