Cheyenne Frontier Days and Grass Fire at Lone Tree

For Christmas, Hanna and James gave us tickets to Cheyenne Frontier Days and Jill and Larsen gave us a gift certificate for a hotel room at a Best Western.
So we journeyed to Hanna's house and then to Cheyenne. The rodeo was awesome. It is such an amazing performance with so many fun things going on in addition to the rodeo.
We went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse after the rodeo. Then we also had tickets to the Jason Aldean concert that night. They had an opening singer that sang a lot of songs about getting drunk. Then when he was finished, they said there was a threat of lightning in the area so the rest of the concert was delayed for at least an hour. As people started getting more and more drunk around us, we decided not to leave and not stay for the concert. Plus we had an hour drive to our hotel and we had to be back to Newcastle the next morning for church because James and Hanna were speaking.

We had a few hours of sleep and made it to Newcastle for church. James and Hanna did a great job. Then on Sunday night, there were two fires on the ranch. It was actually kind of cool to watch all of the neighbors show up with their water trucks and tractors to help put out the fires. Part of the fire was on BLM land so they also sent airplanes to spray fire retardant. They successfully got the fire out.

Carly's Summer Bucket List Wish - a Concert

Carly had a dream to go to a concert this summer.
She had explored lots of options but didn't really make any plans.
Then a couple days before the Jonas Brothers concert at the Calgary Stampede, she decided she wanted to go. She asked a few friends but they couldn't go. Then we invited her cousin Annie, and she was excited to join us.
So we drove to Calgary, barely survived the roundabout right before the parking lot, and made it to the Calgary Stampede. We had some dinner and rode the swings. Carly has never been to a fair or carnival type place.... Youngest child problems.
Then we went to the concert. It was actually awesome. We all loved it. We didn't really know that many of their songs, but it was still fun.
After the concert, we walked up the hill towards the parking lot and there were lots of people sitting on the hill watching a drone show and waiting for the fireworks. So we stayed to watch that too.
Then we stayed the night at Amron and Lana Gwillam's house in Okotoks. Then we got up early to get back to Leavitt for church.

Canada Visitors

Life lesson - we didn't plan the kid's visits to Canada very well this year. First, we have to remember that Austin still has to work through June...July or August will be better. Then Hanna and James came after they had been in Sheridan at Brigham's branding, but I was in Utah the first couple days going to Carson Bennett's homecoming and meeting Jill and Will to bring them back to Canada for a few days.

Anyway, it all worked out. Jill, Will and I got to Cardston on Monday night and we were at our arena riding. Will was trying to crawl through a panel at the arena, and he fell through and landed on his arm. Yep - it was broken. So he had been in Canada for 4 hours when Jill, Will and I headed to the hospital to get a cast on his little arm.

We still had a fun time. Hanna and James stayed a couple days and then headed home. Then Larsen drove up and spent a couple days with us. We went to the temple and did initatories. Will went to Grandpa Buck and Grandma Nunn's while we went to the temple. Will kept saying, "where is Jill?" Then Grandpa drove him around on the riding lawn mower.

We also had a fun adventure to Waterton. Two injured boys limited what we did, but it was still fun. And you can always eat ice cream even in a cast or sling.

On Canada Day, we went to Raymond to watch the parade. It poured rain on us through the whole parade. We were not prepared for that. We only had one umbrella. We were soaked but they still had the parade. In the afternoon, we went to the Remington Centre to get a wagon ride with Grandpa Buck.
