Austin & Kaylynn go to San Antonio

It was Valentine's Day so we had an early morning version of the follow a string maze through the house to find a gift.
Then Austin and I drove to Calgary so we could fly to San Antonio, Texas for an education conference.
Austin and the other superintendents went to conferences during the day. The wives went on a walk by the river, went to watch a Imax movie about the Alamo, did some shopping, and then some of the time we each just hung out in our rooms.
Lucy was in a basketball tournament in Magrath, and we were watching her games online. During one of the games, we saw her sitting on the bench with a white cloth on her mouth. So I text Jewel Hardy, a mom sitting behind the team, and asked her what Lucy's injury was. She sent a picture and video - Lucy had been elbowed during a foul shot and she bit all the way through her lip. Hali Leishman, another mom, ended up taking her to the hospital in Cardston after the game to get stitches. Dr. Cole Leavitt was the doctor on call, and the nurse said he is the best one at stitches. He said that luckily the cut was right above her lip so it was easier to stitch without scarring. I was thankful for the village who looks out for our kids, especially when we were not there.

Back to San Antonio, we went the San Antonio Rodeo two of the nights we were there. It is a well-run and fun to watch pro rodeo. Plus there is a concert after each rodeo - the first night was Alabama (a blast from our past - they are looking old but they could still sing!!!). The second night we went was Keith Urban. He was also an awesome performer.

One morning the other wives and I went to the San Antonio Temple to do an endowment session. They had just changed the temple video the week before so we almost didn't get an appointment because everyone wanted to see the new video. The changes to the temple endowment are awesome - as they include pictures of the Savior and a much more clear explanation of how the temple relates to the Savior.

The last afternoon we were there we all went to the Alamo. It is a cool piece of US history.
Of course Austin did enjoy his conference and learned a lot.

The most interesting part of the trip was the different uber and taxi drivers that took us places. Some hardly spoke English, some were good drivers and others made us scared for our lives, but it was a good way to meet the local people. The lady who drove us to the temple was asking about what the temple was like. Then she said, "Anyone who loves Jesus is always welcome in my car."

Lucy in the Sweetheart Competition

Lucy was nominated to be in the Sweetheart Competition at the high school by the boys basketball team.
She showed a rodeo highlights video for her talent (thanks to Carly who put it together)!!

Sam Hardy was her escort.
Lucy's cougar pride and quiet, gentle spirit are some of the reasons she was nominated.
Nobody can rock a Hannah Montana haircut like Lucy (showed a picture of when Lucy cut her own hair).
Lucy has a feisty and fierce side to her (showed her as a lioness in the junior high play).
Lucy really represents a textbook teammate on the basketball team.
Lucy is a great singer (picture of her junior choir days).
Lucy has a huge love for horses and loves rodeo.
Lucy has awesome and incredible character.

They announced the winners at the dance that night and Lucy was second runner-up and Kamree Schaffer was the Sweetheart winner.
This was the same day that Lucy got a hole in her mouth at the Magrath basketball tournament and had to stop at the hospital for stitches. Then she got cleaned up to go to the Sweetheart dance.
